Relevant, Constantly Updated Content + Faultless Technical Usability & User Experience = Perfect Blog Launch

What’s absent from the equation on top? You guessed it: blog advertising. Creating a fuss-free blog with useful content means next to nothing without drawing readers.
Start advertising your blog today with these five useful tips:

1. Include significant industry bloggers.

By linking to popular blogs, you can increase the attention of both the influential blogger and his or her readers.

But your blog won’t be the only one to benefit from it. You’ll be giving the other blog a little link juice – and be paying them a compliment at the same time.

Try out some of these unique ideas for leveraging other blogs:

Create a post around a fascinating concept published by a prominent blogger: Be sure to credit the information to the blogger and link to his or her post. And don’t forget to offer other exceptional insight to make the post your own.

Interview a prominent blogger and turn it into a forum: That blogger should be certain in linking this to your post so that your readers will most likely to visit your blog as a result. Side benefit: Including the ideas of a thinking leader will help point you as a thought leader as well.

Create a list of influential blogs: Include popular blogs from your industry, and include a link, short description and even a screenshot of some of your products. Online Marketing Blog has triumphantly done this with its BIGLIST of online marketing blogs. Publish and promote a blog post weekly stressing one or two fresh blogs to advertise the list and get hold of another link to the list.

2. Advertise your blog thru social media.

If your business already exists on Twitter, Facebook or other social media channels, influence your network, followers or fans to promote your new blog.

For example, when you have a new post, place a short tweet with a link back to the post – and put the link on your Facebook fan page.

A few reminders to keep:

If possible (we know how short 140 characters can be!), put the blog name in tweets and other social media information.

Auto-feed new posts or blogs to your social media accounts with tools like FeedBurner. But if you select this alternative, ensure your headlines are as convincing as possible for social media networking.

Take full advantage of your promotional efforts by instructing employees to add the blog URL to their signatures and personal social media accounts. Employees can also repost what they find interesting.

3. Make “link-bait” posts and “sticky” headlines.
Having compelling headlines or posts that reverberate with social web users is another way to gain attention for your new blog.

Try some of these facts:
Write counter-instinctive posts – i.e, “The 10 Worst Online Marketing Ideas” or “The 5 Quickest Ways to Get Trapped in the Spam Filter.”

Include celebrities into posts (if suitable for your industry) – i.e., “Top 10 Celebrity Tweets of the Week”

Influence the sticky headline formula, “number + adjective + sticky message” – i.e., Lee’s newest post, “10 Must Read Tips to Start a Small Business Blog” (see image below)

4. Endorse the blog on your corporate website.

It is essential to gain some prized real estate on the homepage of your corporate website – most especially in the early stages of creating a new blog up and running. Make a button linking it to the blog so it appears on the homepage, or at the least present a link to the blog in the nav. The Otter Group did a good job of advertising its blog on the homepage of its corporate website.

In addition to the homepage, ensure the blog is included in the upper and right-hand nav on all website pages. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for visitors to find your blog.

5. Advertise the blog offline.

For all of the online channels existing to promote your blog, there are just as many offline channels to choose from. Don’t limit yourself to the online world. Instead:

Include your blog URL to business cards.
Advertise your blog at industry events.
Make print publications pick up blog posts. Advertise thru word of mouth to inform customers and business partners know of the new blog post. Put the blog URL in the boilerplate of press releases (and in online releases, too). Certainly, these five reminders are just a few of many ways to promote and advertise business blogs. Whatever advertising methods you select, search for tactics that will help you attain business goals whether they are mounting awareness, gaining buzz in the media or getting additional website traffic.
